“Temple of Five Oranges” has moved south and rebuilt in Tainan, located next to Yong Fu Primary School, entitled “Yong Fu Temple of Five Oranges”.
“Fu” (luck), originally was to pray for the spirits’ blessings, which later became luck and propitious. Pray for “Yong Fu” (forever luck), is to wish for gaining forever propitious and happiness, which appears as a kind of humanity desire. While started investigating in focus on the Taiwanese Temple of Wealth, suddenly came across with a TuDi Temple (Temple of Land/Soil) in the Bali District – Fu Jiu Temple, which welcomes the public to sing and have fun in it. Both “Fu Jiu” and “Yong Fu” have the same implication, and similar to “Temple of Five Oranges”, as a ground to reveal the human religious and desires.
This exhibition as a reference to the Fu Jiu Temple structure, with a coin-operated karaoke machine, invites audience to stay a while to participate, following the music and rhythm to evoke furtherer imaginations beyond this space.
A religious space moved south relocation, as well as disclosing the creator’s moving track, it forms a wider path towards human desire. This exhibition is borrowing this space to closely engage with both ritual space and ceremony forms together, reveals the public collective imaginations and desires. Being here, as if entering a space surrounded by all sorts of symbols and secular desires. From original performative rituals and political features, slowly replaced by entertainments and consumptive behaviors. The exchange of secular desires eventually builds up a structure of space in reality with the coexistence of all cultural consumptions, local believes, value identifications, secular aesthetics and personal desires.
